Similar pieces may be requested in shape or size, but will never look exactly the same. The mycelium decides how it wants to grow and where, giving its own say in the design, even if it doesn’t have a traditional “voice” in the creation process.

  • Mycelium is the intelligent, vegetative part of a fungi that primarily lives underground in the soil. It spread out searching for food and nutrients, creating a web-like pattern along the way. Recently its being used in fashion as a vegan leather alternative and in product design as a building material.

  • No.

    Mycelium will not harm you. There is a fear of fungi unnecessarily spreading around and having one of these pieces will not cause you harm. The mycelium is left to dry and is in a dormant state so it will not fruit mushrooms. Even if it did, the only way it would hurt you is if you were specially allergic to this strain of oyster mushrooms.

  • Yes and No. During the last stage of drying it may fruit mushrooms, however, once completely dry it enters a dormant stage and needs to be soaked through for many hours to grow anything.
